Old Walk 3 (page not in use)

Walk  No 3 is a 4¾ mile walk that starts off by going south along the Brit Valley Trail and then turns east through Parnham House deer park along the Jubilee Trail up Coombe Down Hill towards Mapperton through farm land.

Walk No.3 – Total 4¾ miles

Square to Perimeter – ½ mile

Leave Beaminster Square by Church Street, turn left into St. Mary Well Street. Continue up through gate and follow footpath to right of some trees. Through gate, over another field.

Perimeter Section – 2¼ miles

Before trees by two adjacent field gates turn left across field and cross bridle-bridge . Continue across parkland to path near road, turn right to road crossing, cross road, turn right and follow path round end of orchard, then keep to left of hedge, past farm to join to narrow path, which leads to sunken track. After a fairly steep climb of ¼ mile turn right at top, follow bridleway, keeping fence on right and hedge on left. Join track at gateway, continue to left of pine trees. Proceed down this track, through gate ahead past flint barn into meadow, keeping to fence on left, go down track, through another gate, along rutted track to public highway at Posy Tree. Turn left, follow road to Mapperton.

Return to Beaminster – 2 miles

Just before Mapperton village sign, turn left through field entrance onto footpath, keep the hedge on right until reaching hedge on far side of field, cross stile. Down field veering left and head for stile in hedge opposite. Cross this stile, a wooden bridge and second stile into field. Turn left across field and follow left hand boundary fence, pass to left of electricity pole. Continue ahead to two gates in hedge. Soon afterwards leave valley floor and climb steeply alongside right boundary of field to gate. Through gate and second gate, onto road. Take concrete farm road opposite, carefully follow our waymark signs through and to the right of farm until reaching a rough track. Continue along track up through a few trees. After short descent, the track joins asphalt road by bench, go down road into East Street. At junction with Whitcombe Road bear right and right again to the Square.
